Mike Stead UX Designer - AND Digital @ Sky UK

Working with Luke is an absolute pleasure. He's one of those people who's always there when you need him — ready to listen, lend a hand, and genuinely make a difference. As our people champion, he's constantly looking for ways to keep the squad connected and in the loop, especially when it comes to central updates that affect us day-to-day.

When it comes to client work, Luke doesn't just do what's expected — he thinks outside the box and looks for new ways to add real value. He brings fresh ideas to the table and always keeps the client's needs front and centre.

Above all, Luke's someone who puts people first. He's a real team player who goes the extra mile, and it's clear that he cares deeply about the work we do and the people we do it for.

Mo Rahman Product Analyst - AND Digital

Luke is a really effective designer [...] he cares about the product, and wants to deliver design to users - which means he executes on MVP mindset, more than just talking about it. He is able to bring a systematic, developer mindset to design which improves the structure and handover of his work. When he has ideas about how something (process, feature, a product) could change, he presents that thoroughly to any involved stakeholders, and pushes for it by demonstrating what could be better.

He is respectful, but tenacious - and holds onto ideas for the right amount of time (when the team decides not to do something he has pushed for, he is capable of moving on to the next thing which is also important).

He is skillful in componentised design in Figma, and uses the tools features to his and the teams advantage.

Simon Hazelwood-Smith Director of Design - Oxford Nanopore Technologies

It was inspiring to see how Luke is challenging ways of working to drive the right outcomes. Throughout his talk, Luke provided a detailed illustration of how he utilised Figma in his process, sharing insights and learnings that I found valuable for my own work. On the whole, the talk was insightful and highlighted both his skill and his thoughtful approach to design evolution.

Luke is always willing to share and advocates for best design practices, and this commitment is evident in his recent work. Luke's natural charm and engaging approach kept the audience connected to the material throughout.

Samuel Oxley Snr. Product Designer - AND Digital

Luke has a very intuitive way of looking at an interface as an Interaction Designer. He is able to synthesise user needs and behaviour into designs with ease and is comfortable with learning new material and adopting ways of working. His technical skills are strong and I have observed that they are always being added to.

Overall Luke is lovely to work with. He listens, takes direction on board, synthesises information at pace and works well in a team setting. His ability to learn is outstanding and that alone allows him to make huge contributions to our clients.

Liisa Suidt

His communication skills are good and his input greatly contributes to improving the product. Luke shows a commitment to meeting all of the deadlines and consistently delivering high-quality work.

Brad Thornton Design Lead - Sky

Luke understands UCD well and is supportive of user research. He is open to feedback and collaboration which makes him a great person to work with and I can tell he wants to help make a positive difference.

Luke delivered various versions of the Product Transfer journey, service blueprints, he facilitated all usability research sessions by taking good quality notes and onboarded/handed over design to another designer when he left the team. He contributed to team meetings and led workshops and was a positive influence in bringing the design team up to speed on the use of Figma when it was released by LBG.

Rachel Hanna Snr. User Researcher - Lloyds Banking Group

Luke helped us significantly with a new journey UI and features. He is very experienced and does not hesitate to help wherever he can.

Luke has designed the new Mortgage Calculator within a very demanding time frame, this includes obtaining a peer review and copywriter input within the timescales set. He has given the team coaching on how to navigate Figma and kept us up to date on each step he has taken. He's been very willing and happy to make changes as the context diverts and changes with no complaints at all.

He's the most approachable and hard-working UX designer I have worked with!

Sarah Foy Business Analyst - Lloyds Banking Group

Luke is able to spot scope for improvement within teams and takes the steps to share ideas and options for better solutions, and ways of presenting the new ideas back to the team.

My overall opinion of Luke is that he's someone who is open to helping and being helped.

When Luke brought observations to me they were insightful, showing that he has a good understanding of things that are critical to the success of good agile teams. As well as recognising problems, Luke also brought strong, feasible potential solutions that we could discuss.

Clare Lynch Snr. Agile Coach - AND Digital @ Lloyds Banking Group

Luke has lots of excellent ideas and works collaboratively with us and the other teams. He is enthusiastic, friendly and keen to ensure we adopt best practices and ensure comms channels are set up/used effectively.

Luke has understood requirements for features, delivered revised designs that provide a better customer experience and look and feel. Pivots to reflect MVP in designs. Built great relationship with BA to understand how we can progress with speccing/writing user stories whilst designs are finalised. Quickly revised designs to show MVP.

Joanne Marshall Snr. Business Analyst - Lloyds Banking Group

Luke has a thorough understanding of UX design and its principles. In addition Luke demonstrates skills in service design such as the creation of Service Blueprints. Luke is clearly passionate about any task he is assigned to and is pro-active in his approach.

During a project handover, Luke was great at making the transition smooth and painless. He worked closely with another member of the team to help get them up to speed.

Greg Kirk Principal Designer - Lloyds Banking Group

Luke has a very positive attitude and demonstrates a vast understanding of the processes and systems in place. I have found it particularly refreshing since Luke joined the project as his proactive approach and appetite to improve, gain valuable feedback and review his work with other designers resonates with my own approach. He shares a desire to really improve the processes and applications he is involved with and we are seeing better outcomes overall with of this.

Luke is consistently engaging with the design team and is always seeking and giving feedback. He is also one of the first in the team to arrange sessions and encourages others to attend.

Nathan Ulett Snr. UX Designer - AND Digital @ Lloyds Banking Group

During the last 12 months Luke's roles on client have been very siloed with him being the sole designer on the project. Working as a sole designer can result in the individual second-guessing their work and Luke was very conscious of this. Luke decided to take a proactive approach and reach out to myself to support each other with mini design crits.

Luke is very receptive to feedback and is a great sounding board for myself. Luke is a very natural, talented designer with a wealth of design knowledge.

Samuel Oxley Snr. Product Designer - AND Digital

As the sole designer in a team which had a low maturity for UX Design Luke wanted a 'sounding board'.

Asking for advice on his work and what will be the next steps. This showed me the quality of his work was very good. While also that he was comfortable with minimal supervision.

Luke had outlined what needs to done. He then prioritised the key steps and acknowledged where he will need support.

Simon McCartney Principal Designer - AND Digital @ Lloyds Banking Group

I had the pleasure of working with Luke on a high-profile project at the Department for Education. Luke is passionate about user-centred design and solving real problems for users. This shows through his willingness to get involved in attending and shaping user research.

He's also very happy to collaborate with other professionals such as stakeholders, business analysts, researchers and other designers. As a content designer, I was able to contribute changes and ideas to the prototypes that Luke had created. I was also able to constructively challenge some of his design decisions and make suggestions for changes to the interaction design without worry of him being precious about his work.

Tom Simcox Snr. Content Designer - Department for Education

Luke does well at CSS and styling components, this seems to be second nature to him. His coding skills and understanding of requirements is beyond his current level.

He has provided value with his holistic view of the client's needs really helped to shape our implementation.

Overall view and understanding of the project means that he provides a great deal more value than just with his solid coding skills alone.

Paul Miller Snr. Developer - AND Digital @ Yorkshire Water

I worked closely with Luke at Yorkshire Water. Luke lead the discovery phase for the project, facilitating all discovery based sessions allowing the team to build a bigger-picture on a Miro board over the course of 3 weeks. Luke also created design concepts, before playing them back to the scrum team & various stakeholders. Further, Luke also provided design coaching to both a fellow ANDi on the team and a member of Yorkshire Water.

Luke really stood out within the discovery phase he lead. He showed a high level of confidence throughout.

Matt Allingham Snr. Business Analyst - AND Digital @ Yorkshire Water

I worked alongside Luke on WSA project in a hybrid team. Luke was in charge of the planning and facilitation of the project's design sprint. Luke ensured the sessions ran smoothly, and Luke was able to pivot and adapt plans when YW availability wasn't great.

Luke provided value when we were working together on the designs, this allowed us to quickly deliver solid outputs from the design sprint. Working collaboratively over hangouts + XD worked really well.

James Genchi UX Designer - Yorkshire Water

I wanted to mention how much growth I saw in you from the beginning to now. Knowing you had the technical skills to be placed on client with minimal support was apparent from early on. He went into each client assignment willing to do your best and at no point were your technical skills questioned.

All in all it was a pleasure having you in my squad, watching you grow and thrive in your chosen specialism. You have plenty of offer in terms of client work, AND specific initiatives and sharing knowledge and I look forward to seeing your career excel.

Liz Mirecki Delivery Principal- AND Digital

Luke has done great work on the Sparck skills framework for UX. In turn, that work has been helpful in shaping the Luna framework and even our own Murray UX framework. After spending some time mentoring Luke, I've had the opportunity to see the work he's done over the years and gain a grasp for his skill level and experience.

He's an adept UX designer and has a good range of skills across the discipline, specifically those that are in demand for government projects making him a great asset for Sparck going forward.

Ben Marsh Design Lead - AND Digital

I've been impressed with his integral role in defining the design / ux mosaic not just for Sparck but across the organisation, working with and building relationships with designers across AND.

The design community in Sparck meets weekly and I've seen Luke tends to lead the conversation, certainly acts as the glue to keep the group going and it's really impressive. I've seen some of the work he did for Yorkshire Water which I thought was excellent and have heard he was a driving force behind the engagement with accessible Calderdale.

Steven Power Product Principal - AND Digital

Luke designed all of the application screens for a Photo and Evidence capture application to fit within the provided YW brand and ui guidelines.

Luke was a very capable and well-rounded member of the team, he was able and happy to identify and address many of the challenges that came up for the team. Luke was confident interacting with the client and all other team members. He contributed positively to the open, friendly and collaborative dynamic of a team, and was trusted by everyone
